Sony has dropped hints that it may be retroing the original PlayStation from 1993 in an interview between Sony President and CEO John Kodera and Mantan Web. Translated from Japanese by Comicbook, the CEO said “our company is always digging up past assets, I think there are various ways to do (a classic console). There have been discussions happening (within the company) on what kind of ways are there.”
The PS1 was first released in Japan in 1993 and is a touchstone of nostalgia for many gamers around the world. For many millennials too, this console would have been their first home gaming experience. The rumors are not too surprising considering that rival company Nintendo has been capitalizing on this nostalgia by re-releasing older consoles recently, such as the NES and SNES.
If Sony are to go ahead with a re-release you could hope to revisit fan favorites such as Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy 7, Crash Bandicoot and Resident Evil among other classic PS1 titles.
This sounds interesting. But this is just pure speculation from a translated comment.
That sounds like an awesome idea. Considering they already remastered some ps 1 and 2 games to have trophy support I don't see why they couldn't put in multiplayer for some old games, except for the ones they don't have the source code anymore.
