Him and Wild Ride are awful in this game (for the AI)
Why is this? They were masters and feared in Jet Moto 1 and were always in the top 10

Actually all the AI is terrible. Something about having to rush before deadline and instead of writing AI they just recorded gameplay recordings. I heard that they had actual extreme sport guys (snowboarders, motocross, etc) come in and record their best. It's also why sometimes they glitch up and get stuck in levels.
However the upside is they are still dope riders to play as.

Him and Wild Ride are awful in this game (for the AI) Why is this? They were masters and feared in Jet Moto 1 and were always in the top 10 I've heard the same thing Camackid is saying about recorded gameplay. But, from my own experience playing the game, all the riders are good or bad depending on the track and difficulty. For instance, where Wild Ride finishes on Meltdown varies depending on what the difficulty is. Anymore I only play on "insane" and The Max is actually pretty good (at least in the top 5 after every season, often 2nd or 3rd...of course I'm first ). Slickrock and Meltdown he's especially good at along with Blade and Technician; Arctic Blast is another one. Wild Ride will almost always be the best AI on Mach Schnell and is also good on Hot Shot...I think. Other than that she does pretty average. But again, that's only on Insane, I can't really remember the patterns on other difficulties.

Sure Max and WR have lacked in the early seasons, but in Master and Insane seasons, they really start to kick your butt in.

Recorded races? How....SNES of them.... Actually, in SNES days there was an algorithm that "approximated" the locations of the other racers on the track unless they were in direct view of the player. Also, last time I checked Jet Moto 2 had none of that "rubber-band AI" nonsense.

Wild Ride, Technician and The Max all suck in the lower difficulties, but they get a lot better during the tougher difficulties. However even in the master levels, each character has some tracks they usually do really well in.
In JM1, I'd say considering the AI, Wild Ride, Technician and Dakota were the top3 characters.

Seems like some think it didn't pan out in the end. Makes sense though I guess. I always thought the computer-controlled characters behaved more erratically and less, well computer-y for lack of a better term. So, does that mean the "AI" racers race the exact same way each time on those specific tracks? Since it's pre-recorded gameplay?

I believe that's exactly how pre-recorded gameplay works, Aaron, although I have been known to be wrong... a lot.... but I'm pretty sure it's obvious.

Individually, they would play identically, but the player's interactions and the computer's interactions force them to drive slightly differently every time.
