After playing this track for the first time since..Eh 1998? Was it later than that?
Anyway, I suck. My first time playing it in years it almost took me 8 minutes to finish the track. It is a pretty track though.

Yeah. The beta version of Jet Moto had a cooler version of this track though, it had less fog, and a mountain background visible. The toughest part is the one with the ruins everywhere, where you have to do the exact right jump before a checkpoint, otherwise, you fall off your bike. All the mysterious content like the secret passages and the cool soundtrack makes it one of my favourite!

That damn wall... stupid wall...
I mean, I love Machu Piccu. It's a beautiful track to race on, and it's fun trying to keep your speed up on the multiple hairpin turns. And scraping by along the hops and rolling hills. Ahh, good times...
...Stupid wall with the tiny hole...

...Stupid wall with the tiny hole... Which one? XD I can think of many, but the wall I hate the most is the one at the end, the first wall of the maze, you gotta hold the brake over there.

Oh, I forgot there was more than one. I'm thinking of the first that you HAVE to jump through. Though, to be honest, I haven't played JM3 in years. I hppe I can check it out again, but I haven't been able to play anything in a year.

Oh, that one. Well, it's a pain in the ass to go through at first, but you can figure it out if you try long enough. Pro tip : In Jet Moto 3, if you land or crash anywhere with the bottom of your bike, you won't fall off, just pass the hole by boost-hopping and point the bottom of your bike upwards to the top of the wall, it'll bounce off! I do this most of the time.

Oh wait. I just realized. YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT THAT WALL AREN'T YOU? Oh god. THAT FUCKING WALL!! The only real clue I can give you is... Feel it out. I don't know how to explain it, I just boost-jump across it without any problem, I just feel the moment I need to jump.

Okay, so guys... I've just figured out the reason why Machu Picchu is full of fog and doesn't use its skybox. I can't believe it took me this long to actually unravel this mystery, it's so obvious!
Alright, so, Jet Moto 3 saves the different versions of its tracks in different files. One file is one version of a track, so the reversed track, for example, would be saved in a separate file. MACHU.TXB/MACHU.BND is the regular track, while MACHUR is the reversed track. As it turns out, certain tracks which are particularly hard to run or contain water have a 2 player version of the track which is less detailed and more optimized, not all of them though. MACHU's would be MACHU2P (you might see where I'm going with this.)
By examining the other tracks which have a 2 player variant, you can find that they always have a smaller file size than their single player counterparts, and in-game, there will be noticeable differences, such as the water being turned opaque, having lower poly models and textures, etc. Looking at MACHU's files, they're all the exact same size. Not only that, but going in-game to find any differences will just result in nothing. They are identical. This makes absolutely no sense... Unless!
At some point in development, maybe right before shipping the final build, they exported the 2 player version of the map to the single player file by accident. It would explain everything, why the trailers (which had near final builds) showed the skybox, why the in-game video preview shows the skybox, etc.
There you have it, after all these years, we finally know why Machu Picchu is missing its skybox. I wonder, maybe the original single player version of the track had more detail. It's interesting to think about.

Huh. That does explain that weirdness. But seems right up the alley full of slip-ups during that era.
Anyway, I wanted to give an update on my thoughts to this track. That "damn wall" is still a pain in the ass, but once you get used to boosting through on that grass ramp, it's not a big deal. The only real part I dislike is one section of the ruins where you have to slide through a bunch of right-angle turns like a broken section of a labyrinth... which breaks the flow of the race in my opinion. I would have gone with filling it with a natural cave formation that forks and rolls around, kinda like the one in Lost City before(?) the levee where the water flows from a part of the city into a cave and you can roll through the splitting sections. That would have made it pretty fun here. Otherwise, great fun track. I love the cliffside portions and riding over the ruins and falling to the ground floor.
