Being obsessed with roads from my early childhood, the beginning freeway part always kind of took out my willing suspension of disbelief. Two specific examples: the elevated freeway, built as if it was already going over an ocean, instead going over the submerged airport (which would mean the elevated freeway would have actually been even further up from the very high point it was already at), and the same freeway (8 lanes) turning into a boulevard (4 lanes) with zero transition.
Even so, this was a fun track, especially to mess around on in the airport segment (where I'd try to climb everything). I also enjoyed the fact that the shortcut kind of makes fun of the product placement in a way.

I also enjoyed the fact that the shortcut kind of makes fun of the product placement in a way. So true. You could say the same about the "shortcut" on slickrock. In fact I don't think there's a shortcut in the game that actually reduces your lap time. Rollercide's might be close.

Rollercide's shortcut does in fact reduce lap time, but it's hard to pull off. You have to shoot off the second peak at just the right angle to both land at the top of the spiral and grab the checkpoint underneath.

So basically it wasn't necessarily an intentional shortcut, just easy sequence breaking?

Yep. There are actually quite a few tricks in Jet Moto as the result of programming oversights.
