Well, I've been on the net, buying and downloading games from the years gone by to cure my boredom. So I'm going to amass a huge list of games I've played over the years and discuss these with my fellow man, woman or whatever you may be.

The way this works is I am going to be rating games by Graphics, Sound, Gameplay and Replay Value.The Total Score of a game will be based on a average of these 4 factors. Included will be a short review, screenshots, videos, Value of the game and if possible a website for the game.

Every week I will try and post at least 2 games a week. Depending on how complex the game is it may only be one.

Mach Rider takes place in the year 2112, and planet Earth has been invaded by evil forces known as Quad runners. The player controls Mach Rider, who travels from sector to sector on a motorcycle, searching for survivors and destroying the enemies in his path.

Mach Rider's Controls are actually quite complex for games in this era. In Mach Rider the player uses the A button to accelerate and the B button is used to fire. The D-pad moves Mach Rider left and right while up and down shifts gears. Mach Rider has 4 gears. Each one takes a gradual increase in speed, 4th gear however propels you into a turbo speed, Obstacle dodging frenzy.

On each level the player must travel across a long stretch of road, while dodging obstacles such as oil slicks, puddles, barrels and rocks. While doing that the player must also fight against the evil Quad runners. There is two ways to defeat a Quad runner, The player can either shoot them or run them off the road into a obstacle. Doing the latter will replenish the players ammo and reward the player with a larger score bonus at the end of each level.

Mach Rider also has 4 gameplay modes.

Fighting Course: This is the main story arch for Mach Rider. Mach rider must ride from one stretch of highway to the other in search of survivors, while dodging obstacles and killing Quad runners. The player has a limited energy or lives that depletes when the player is either crashed by a Quad runner or when the player smashes into a obstacle.

Endurance Course: The Player must Travel a set amount of kilometers with in the time limit while dodging obstacles and Quad runners.

Solo Course: The same as Endurance without the Quad Runners.

Design: The Player can design their own track to play in any of the other game modes.

Graphics: 3

While not the best looking game on the NES, it defiantly isn't the worse. I actually like Mech Riders Graphics and I think they do their job well. The Color pallet is a bit bland, but thats not the most important thing. Most Objects and Characters are just pallet swaps.

Sound: 3

Ah, old 8bit music. The Beeps and boops make a pretty good theme song. I'm not sure if theres another song or one song plays through the whole game. While it is catchy I don't think it's quite as memorable as say, Super Mario or Zelda.

Gameplay: 3.5

Mach Rider's gameplay is solid and fun. The controls are smooth and react just as you need them to. Each mode doesn't really offer that much change in gameplay. The game does also offer a stiff challenge. The Fighting Course and Endurance are really the only two modes needed. Though Solo does give you a way to get use to the controls. Design mode is complicated and you only have the option to save tracks if you have a Facmicom data recorder, which was never released in the US. I personally cannot review the design mode because I could never get out of the screen after making a course.

Replay Value: 3.5

Replay Value of this game comes from the fact that once you beat the first 10 levels you are given the option to play a 10 new levels. However with out a save you will have to replay the first part each time to gain access to the second set.

You like Armored Core? I have the 1st one, MoA and the PSP game Formula Front. Never had the other ones because I don't have a PS2 or PS3 (I want one though).

As for games heres my suggestions.

MVP Baseball 2005 (PS2, Gamecube, PC, Xbox)

-I'm a big baseball fan so this is for any fans out there. This game is amazing. The gameplay is one of the best out there. Shame EA Sports lost the MLB license.

One the really great things in it is the Owners Mode. It adds to the Dynasty mode more responsibilities such as maintaining the ballpark and maintain it. Also there is a ballpark customizer.

They also repaired a bad bug which made making your up and coming players unable to become stars unless you played at least 95% of the games (which means spending months playing every game of the season.)

But that's all not really important. The gameplay is where it shines. When batting the bat automatically aims for the ball so you have to only worry about the type of hit and your timing. It's much more accurate then other batting models where trying to aim for the ball meant missing strikes more often then you should.

Since the 2003 version the pitching is one of the most revolutionary pitching systems in baseball games. There is a windup meter that corresponds to a real pitcher's windup. It has a green zone which is what you got to aim for. You select your pitch, hold on to the button, then let go near the red zone (your windup) then throw at the green when the meter comes back. Really simple and makes pitching a better challenge.

Because EA lost the MLB contract they followed this up with a NCAA version of MVP Baseball with MVP 06: NCAA Baseball and 07. Whenever EA gets the MLB licence again they will have one the biggest baseball video-game out there.

Freelancer (PC)

An amazing space game with a great story. You basically are a freelancing pilot in the Sirius Sector. You can take jobs and it's semi-open. Really great game. The combat is really good and the world is incredibly huge. I wanna write more but there is nothing else I can say besides this game is great! I wasted so much time on it. These days I don't play but I plan to get back at it.

The Mortal Kombat (Xbox 360, PS3)

This game isn't out yet, but it's going to be the best Mortal Kombat game since Mortal Kombat II. The series is being taken back to its roots, with 2D fighting in 3D, juggle combos, and fatalities. After the mess that was Armageddon and vs DC, this will be the first Mortal Kombat game I've bought in a long time. When it comes out.

Jeez, there's quite a few games that I've loved over my years of gaming, so here's some I can get off the top of my head.

Tekken 3

This is the game that brought me into fighting games. Coincidentally, it's most likely the best game in the series with a good roster of characters, plus a couple of hidden characters as well. I haven't really locked down on a main character that I play with until Tekken 5 rolled around, (which is just as good as T3 imo) which Asuka has remained my main, even through Tekken 6.

Guilty Gear X2

This is a 2d fighter that has the most crazy cast of characters that I have ever seen in a fighting game. The roster includes a very tall doctor with a paper bag over his head and a giant scalpel, a witch with an electric guitar, a gay man with a pool stick and balls as weapons (he really is gay btw), and much more. With all that, the fighting system is really solid, promoting players to attack more and defend less. There are quite a few modes to go through, including a story mode, arcade mode, etc.

Also, the music in this game is just plain awesome. Daisuke Ishiwatari is a god in making music for fighting games. Just listen to the GGX2 soundtrack as well as the BlazBlue soundtrack (both games are made from the same devs) and you'll see how badass his music is.

SSX

SSX is an extreme snowboarding game for the PS2 system that features snowboarders racing or performing tricks through insane tracks with big jumps and crazy obstacles. This game highhandedly got me interested to try snowboarding for the first time in my life. Plus, it's sequels got better as the series went on. The only SSX games I didn't really like were On Tour and Blur. Blur is because it just didn't fit with the different art style. I really didn't like On Tour not because of the gameplay, but because of the characters and their drastic changes. They just didn't seem like the characters I have grown to know in the past 3 games. Overall, the first 3 are outstanding games.

From PC gaming Fallout 1 and 2 are one of the best games ever made.
And Heroes of Might And Magic III is holy grail of TBS genre.

One of my favorite genres is platforming altough I admit I didn't had a N64 back in the day and I think I missed pretty much.
Crash Bandicoot and Spyro are some of my favorite platformers.

Way back when, Super Smash Bros. was one of my all-time favorites. It has so much replay value and was fun during parties.

SSB Melee was so fun. I used to play with my brother time to time. We would sit on the floor playing. Felt like being a kid again.

therecanbeonlyone mentioned Spyro. I friggin love Spyro. I can't believe Insomniac dropped him just because he can't hold a gun. (at least that is the story going around) I hated the idea of Universal Interactive rebooting the franchise so I never played the new games. I only have 1 and 3.

barreld mentioned Guilty Gear X2. My friend is a huge fan of GG. I bought GGX2 for my PSP as a result (a GG fan can be a lil overbearing lol [luv the guy though]). I really like it. The music is the shit! Being a metal fan it's just perfect.


WWE Day of Reckoning 1 and 2

I'm a big wrestling fan so naturally as a gamer I play the games. This game was my life for like 4 years so I may write too much LOL. WWE DoR is one the last great wrestling games based on WWE programming. The SDvR series is coming along but still got a long way to go in terms of gameplay. DoR is not as good as the n64 game WWF No Mercy but it captures vital gameplay mechanics that made it special.

One vital thing I'm talking about is light/heavy grapples. SDvR has them but they package it with tons of button combinations it's basically irritating. Not to mention DoR doesn't stuff grapples with annoying canned animations (like suplex, taunt, kick, leg drop all in one scene). Gives more control to players.

Granted wrestling games try to make competition out of something that is fake so that is kinda a big thing to figure out. Gameplay isn't the best thing in wrestling games in general. But DoR does a good job and makes the experience great.

The sequel did great but it brought in a really bad stamina system that really ended up having players waiting for stamina to return. The game was riddled with glitches and AI was broke (in 4 way matches AI would go after you, basically you were stuck unless you took advantage of some gameplay mechanics).

Create a wrestler in both games was one of the best out there. However lack of custom designs really limited the system. Believe it or not, all these countermeasures where so players wouldn't make fake penises and boobs *sigh*.

The number of moves was great. Animations where fairly authentic and there was a good variety of moves to keep players happy (not me though, I played this game too much to actually crave more). Since this was made by the Yukes developers who did the Japanese games, there were some famous wrestling moves from Japan that made it in the game (which is rare for a WWE game).

Back in 2004-2007 I was a founder of a eWrestling (wrestling fan-fiction) project that started out as us simming matches with WWE DoR between original created wrestlers. We eventually dropped using the game in favor of making better stories and it got us writing matches (I was one of the best writers). It was fun times but had to come to an end. Basically there were less people contributing (at one point I had to write all the matches, and that frustrated me) and original ideas started dwindling (however we had some pretty damn original wrestling character ideas, one guy in particular was this loner type with one eye and a really cool backstory, another was a ex soldier who lost his humanity and saw wrestling as something to get his anger out, just so happens those two had one the biggest feuds there). My character was kinda generic but he had his story in the ring. He had a big feud with another guy that was kinda epic. Sorry I write so much about my eWrestling project. It was a really fun experience that I miss. I hope to start that all over again with my improved storytelling skills and my fresh ideas, but that is for me.

Guilty Gear X2 is the love. One of my favorite 2d fighters along side darkstalkers.

I've always loved SSMB and Melee as well. Fallout 1 and 2 are also awesome. As for the "3rd" One Fallout tactics I didn't care too much for.

Tekken has been my favorite fighting game for ever.

Anyone here remember jumping jack flash? Wasn't the most amazing game ever, but I spent a good majority of my child hood playing it.
