Oh. My. Jesus.
Made by Singletrac after being bought by GT Interactive.
I picked this up a few months ago after looking for random Singletrac games. It was racing. It was Singletrac. It was Pinnacle Muisic Group (Actually, Big Idea Music. But the same people.) So this should be at least a decent racing game, right?
Before playing, I looked at the manual. There was a pretty cool story about Eddie Conner, a pro snowboard rider, acquiring a hoverboard called a GEMblade. Blah blah blah. The story actually wasn't bad, and made me want to play it even more.
So I pop it in, and was greeted with music that was reminiscent of Sonic Riders, but not nearly as good. It was industrial meets minor key synthpop. And truth to be told, there was only one song that I actually liked. Sad.
And now lets get into gameplay. There were somethings that were from JM, like turbos and gaining points for tricks. But there were three gigantic flaws. 1: the turning, 2: very narrow tracks, and 3: it was way too dark.
1. You could not do small turns. It was all or nothing. You know how in most games, the pivot for turning is at the front (for cars) or the middle (like JM)? Here it was at your back foot. It was like your rider would kick out his/her back foot instead of leaning. Sharp turns or no turns, which made reason number 2 worse.
You know how in The Shaft (JM2) there are the no rail bridges that are really narrow? Take that, but make it every track. There are walls, but every time you hit one, you pool ball off it.
And the first three levels were also impossible to see. The Shaft with the brightness all the way down. Nothing more to say.
My rating: 4/10
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND, discuss.
