We all know how awesome Jet Moto is...but what about the other racing games that blew your socks off back int he day? yes, we all know about F-Zero, Wipeout, etc....but what about those lesser-known gems? My personal favorite of those gems would be (prepare to laugh if you haven't played it) Hot Wheels : Turbo Racing. The game was absolutely amazing in every way, and programmed expertly. Soundtrack was decent, although I stopped liking Metallica after 1985...gameplay and graphics were excellent, and PLENTY of secrets were around. If you guys haven't played it...give it a shot..you won't be sorry!

I've played Turbo Racing. Jesus I was obsessed with that game! I never owned it but I rented it like 3 times from Blockbuster and borrowed from a friend when he bought it. Man I loved the tracks so much! Never got tired of it.
Then I came across the sequel, Hot Wheels: Extreme Racing. Thinking, "hey maybe this is just as good", but it's nothing like Turbo. Basically it's a race with weapons and transforming cars. It's alright but the cars feel slow. It doesn't have the same spirit. Oh and they made the cars tiny instead of being full size like in Turbo.
A big time gem for me would be Micro Machines V3 for PSX. It was a top down racer and it was so fun. The cars were tiny (because its in the name duh lol) and you raced on kitchen tops, desktops, living rooms, pool tables etc. They had some weapons like a giant hammer to crush who's in front and missiles. Such a enjoyable game. I'm miss it so much now lol.
Gotta give a shout out to NASCAR Thunder 2003. I don't know about the other games but this game was a really good experience for me. I think this may be one of the better NASCAR games out there because others that I tried weren't that good.

I remember the first and only time I rented a Nascar game.
I literally raced an oval for 300 laps over the course of 4-5 hours.
The next track was 100 laps long, so I said screw it and never played it again.

Call me new school, but Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity gets the award for second best racing game ever (JM is #1).
Crash Team Racing was my favorite kart racing game, but then Sonic and Sega All Stars came out. Such a great game on the $20 or less shelf.

Sonic & Sega Allstars Racing is quite possibly the best Kart Racing game I've ever played. It did so much stuff right: Weapon system, core driving engine, trick system, boost system, The only thing that they dropped the ball with was characters(Big The Cat got a spot over someone older like Fang The Sniper or someone newer like Blaze The Cat?), and that's only because SEGA wouldn't let Sumo Digital do any more DLC after Metal Sonic and Death Egg. Allstars Racing appears to have become SEGA's answer to Mario Kart seeing as it's been released on all home consoles, the DS, the I-Phone, AND it has an arcade cabinet. I'm hoping they just go all the way and make an Allstars Racing 2.

I have good memories of Hot wheels turbo Racing. I probably should buy that game again at some point. Didn't it have a lot of hidden vehicles and tracks? I don't know if I recall that correctly.
There is a lot of lost gems out there. It's kind of sad really.

How has no one mentioned this yet?!
EXTREME-G!!!!! Extreme-G 1, 2, III, and 4. They rock. Absolutely amazing soundtracks! 1 and 2 had perfect gameplay. 3 was good, but 4 was a bit better.

Anyone even know of NASCAR Rumble? It's a totally awesome version of NASCAR racing with weapons, different track backgrounds, and funny commentary by Jess Harnell, a man slightly famous for his salesman voice.
As for others, I guess I would say Jak X Combat Racing, Modnation Racers, Crash Tag Team Racing, Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit, Demolition Racer, and Hydro Thunder.
Jak X Combat Racing, Modnation Racers, and NFS3 everyone probably knows something about.
Demolition Racer was a classic, with high-speed racing combined with metal-to-metal destruction on-the-go. And it had great music (though they were licensed, which I know SOMEBODY is gonna complain about).
Crash Tag Team Racing was classic combat racing combined with the comedy of the Crash Bandicoot series that everyone loves. It's strangeness in music and commentary by the racers themselves is quite unique... OK, so it's not THAT kickass.
Hydro Thunder...
...oh, my bad, I mean HYDROOOOOO THUNDERRRR!!!!! One of the greatest (no, THE greatest) boat racing game ever, with multiple courses that represent real-world locales from round the world, along with plenty of secret shortcuts and boats. I still remember my favorite boat that I loved to use, the Tidal Blade. It was sleek and felt fast, despite just being a medium-class speedboat. I hear they made a spiritual successor for the 360 as a downloadable game, as well as another spiritual sequel for the arcades called H2Overdrive.
Plus, I heard in one XG game, there was some sort of track customization.
Well, I hope my choices aren't that poorly made.

Sonic Riders Zero Gravity is by far my favourite racing game after the PS1s games, it's going at an insane speed in futuristic tracks beating up robots using gravity! On PS1, and on any platforms, my favourite racing game would be Jet Moto 2124, if it would've been released. My first favourites released racing games are Jet Moto 2 & Jet Moto 3, both in the same position because of the difference they have, but both are good games. My second favourite would be Jet Moto 1, and the third would be Moto Racer 1.

Screamer is a pretty good racing game. You can buy it off of GOG.com for cheap or get a actual copy, but be warned. While it's a good game it's a bit moody until you get it running correctly.
To put it into prospective I would say it's like a silky smooth Ridge Racer, but way better than the original Ridge racer.
