A good budget game that I know of is Joyride Turbo for the X-Box360. It's basically the Kinekt Turbo kart racer with the Kinekt taken out of the equation. Although the general presentation is pretty bland, the game gives you lots to do for your money with a good handful of tracks, two GIGANTIC sandboxes to tropes about in and a bunch of collectables and unlockables. The game engine is a bit loosey-goosey for the tracks, I feel, but for the price, it's pretty decent. Especially so considering the fact that it gives those boring little Mii ripoffs a bit more lastability once the novelty of paying real cash for virtual clothes dies out.
My favorite unknown game would for certain have to be the Japan only Sega Saturn classic Willy Wombat! Willy Wombat is about the adventures of a blue wombat named Willy(As the title implies) as he searches the world for a legendary group of stones known as the Miracle Gems while at the same time evading pursuit by a team of government owned mercenaries, led by the extremely determined bat Notes. The gameplay(Which, I admit, I have never played outside of emulation) is action/adventure platforming from an isometric view with the main gimmicks being the 360 camera control and the collection of Power Cores and Ancient Scrolls to increase your health and unlock access to powerful moves. What makes this game stand out, though, is the story. Completely out of character for this kind of game from that age, Willy Wombat delves into plotlines involving life on the run from the government, how far you're willing to go to uphold the laws of a totalitarian government and the price one is willing to pay for freedom. Combined with a deliciously snazzy and atmospheric soundtrack, Willy Wombat is a very interesting romp...though I admit the gameplay is every bit as clunky as a mid-ninties Sega Saturn isometric platformer is going to be.
As for my favorite flat out BAD game, that would have to be the base shatteringly bad Sonic 2K6. I'm able to find the good in most bad things, especially games, and Sonic 2K6 is one of those things. While the gameplay is, for the most part, a glitchy, unfinished mess, what isn't broken is actually pretty fun. Shadow and Silver in particular are very fun to play as with their unique approaches to platforming and combat. One thing that REALLY stands out to me about the game is it's conveyance. When you play a stage, there's lots of eyecandy. Lots of establishing shots and lots of places to go to regardless of wheather getting there is your actual goal. The stages tell the story just as much as the story does, and when you get through a stage just right(Or watch someone els play it) then you quickly find yourself invested in what's going on. You see the train in the establishing shots and that makes you want to get there to save it/kick it's ass. You can see the fire tornado in the distance for most of Crisis City, so you KNOW something must be going down there. In addition to that, the music is typical Sonic fare, by which I mean AWESOME! And hell, even the glitches are so plentiful and fun in nature that they factor heavily into the speedrunning metagame. The best way I've heard Sonic 2K6 explained is as that one friend who has genuinely good intentions but every once in a while accidentally smacks you due to his own clumsiness. Had the game not been rushed out the door half baked in order to meet Christmas deadlines, I'm sure it would have been an at least decent addition to Sonic's library...at least, from a purely gameplay standpoint.
