Well, here in Québec, Canada, there is extreme cold in the winter, wich makes it a living hell. Even if we get sometimes 35 to 40 celsius in the summer, when it's really hot, we can get -40 to -50 in the winter, here is what are the conditions needed for school to close (translated from french to english by me) :
Criteria of evaluating of situations Freezing rain and very slippery roads or Continuous snow storm and prognosis with motorable roads at the time of decision-making or Snow storm and impassable roads or Average temperature on the territory of the school commission lower to -35 celsius or Cold wind factor superior or equal to 2250w/m2 or Zero or near zero visibility.
As you can see, we go to school even if it's -34 celsius! I walked there this morning, it was so cold I had a big coat and winter pants, 3 winter gloves, two neck warmers, a big winter hat and I was still freezing under that! There's snow hills everywhere that are high as 5-8 feets tall (for the small ones) and I got to walk 1km at -20 to -34 celsius! We're humans too, we are not made for these temperature! Before, the maximum temperature was -30, now, because of -30 something temperatures becoming more frequent, they got the limit under -35! -_-

I've never been in that kind of temperature. Today was 8F (-13 in C) and I went out to shovel. I had to go back in and layer up. If I'm freaking out over that I can't imagine what -35c is like.
Actually I've been wondering this for years. You figure maybe they expand more off days during winter and open up school closer to the summer. Just so the kids would be comfortable. But idk...

Lol, well -35 is like... Think about that when you have normal clothes on, you feel your body freezing and the blood in your veins transforming into ice about 15 seconds after being out there! It's really cold. And we start school september 1st, and we finish by the end of june.

And my mom is crazy, so I have to go to school even at -35 if the school says I have to!

Okok. Here it's full of vegetation. In the summer, it's like 20-35 celsius in average. In winter we get -20 to -45. You can clearly see wich season is the longest and the strongest LOL! I live more in the north than people who are in Montreal, they get less apocalyptic extreme temperature. By "so hot as hell" do you mean like 60 degrees in average? Because I don't know much about your place. Here, we got to get used to the temperature. We use big snow coats, pants, boots, hats and a large amount of stuff for the winter. I can say though that having this kind of weather is also an advantage. Here, we got mountains and we can go skiing and snowboarding on them and it's SO MUCH FUN! My brother is in 6th grade of primary school and right now, himself and his class are on a trip to Mount Tremblant (it's Québec's second biggest skiing mountain) and are going to have so much fun eating pizza, swimming into pools, shopping, eating more food and skiing! I did the trip myself 3 years ago and I had SO MUCH FUN! The 6th primary grade is the one before secondary school, wich I am in (in 3rd secondary grade) and the trip is to celebrate their last year at primary school. I complain about the weather but I still forget the chance we got to have those winter sports! It's difficult enough to actually realize how other people live! I just can't get myself to think how it is to be in a country hot as hell and full of deserts! o.O

Haha! While it is very hot, the lower you get is -1 celsius! XD The heat must be really though to endure though, but I guess by living there you get used to it as we get used to the cold here.

Well, here's a little update. I've now been moved for a year now and... It's even worst here. The school only closes if it's -45 celsius or lower! AND whatever is on the roads (icy roads, snowy roads, icy snowy roads) doesn't bother them at all... Not only that, but a lot of the time there's fog that limits your vision to 2 meters in front of you, and they don't give a shit. School's always open, it NEVER closes. So you know that :
Freezing rain and very slippery roads or Continuous snow storm and prognosis with motorable roads at the time of decision-making or Snow storm and impassable roads or Average temperature on the territory of the school commission lower to -35 celsius or Cold wind factor superior or equal to 2250w/m2 or Zero or near zero visibility.
Well, here, none of these are a problem to the school. I've got down to temperatures as low as -44 (-48 with the wind and shit) and my school didn't even close. Now, since I go to school in a bus, it shouldn't be a problem, right? WRONG!! THE DRIVER DOESN'T PUT ANY SORT OF HEATING ON... AT ALL!! SO IT'S FUCKING -48 IN THE MOTHERFUCKING BUS!!! PLS M8.
