I came across this when I was looking for something else. Early pic of Jet Moto when it was still a motocross game. Thank god they changed it to what it is tho. Much more memorable as it is now. I dunno, but the graphics might have been better in the old game tho.

Oh wow thats amazing. I know they planned it as a motocross game but they were like oh it's too hard to make wheels work for 20 bikes. Thanks for the find!

I submitted this to unseen64 and hoped to get it out there that way, but then they took a break to write a book. So I figured I'd share this here myself. Glad you like the scan. I couldn't believe it when I found it. I loved the first 2 games.

It's really interesting that graphical limitations led to such an amazing racing game concept with unique track designs. Thanks for the find!

This is amazing. I always wanted to know what it looked like before it became a hover bike game. It's funny that it was still called Jet Moto even when it was a motocross game.

man, no wheels made it look way cooler,-- thanks for showing us dude, i just didn't think they had done Any work with wheels because of the limitations everyone knows about They probably succeeded to make the system work with one player, but when it came the time to add AIs, they realized it was impossible due to the limits of their engine. JM1&2's engine is really badly optimized (probably because it was made very early in the PS1's life cycle), it looks like its graphics are half-way between SNES and PS1, yet it runs at a low 15 (JM1) and 20 (JM2) FPS. Ah, and JM1&2's engine works with the FPS to do its calculation on the physics, which means the game, when ran at higher FPS than intended, literally speeds up. JM3's engine is almost on par with PS2 graphics quality and better than most physics on the PS2, yet it runs at a solid 30+ FPS (framerate was capped to 30, but the developper says it ran at 40 FPS most of the time and sometimes 60). Its physics calculations work with ticks like in modern games, so it's possible to get an infinite amount of FPS while still conserving the speed it's intended to run at. JM2124's engine? It was so good that the game was going to have a PS2 release with better graphics after the initial PS1 release, which sadly never happened.

While the JM3 engine may be improved and optimized, it plays nothing like JM 1 or 2. If they slowed down the speed it woulda been alot more fun. You wouldnt be getting stuck on walls all the time. Intersting bit about JM4 gonna have a PS2 version tho.
I also agree that JM3 does have better graphics tho.

Yeah, JM3 feels nothing like JM1&2 because the supervisor at 989 Studios though JM1&2 were too slow and insisted on the fact that JM3 had to be a start of a new generation of Jet Moto racing games with fast action. The programmer originally made the game a lot slower and it felt a lot closer to the originals, but yeah, the supervisor pretty much forced him to make it faster. And no, just because it isn't like 1 or 2, it doesn't mean it isn't as fun or as good. The level design in some of the tracks is not very good and could use some work, that I can understand, but the game itself and its physics are way better than than anything JM1&JM2 ever were. The tuning in them was made in such a way that it made the game feel too fast and too different from 1&2, but from a certain point of view, that's good, because it makes for a completely different experience. I personally enjoy JM2, 3 and 4 all as much as each other, even with their differences. You can prefer the feel of 2, 3 or 4, but the fact remains that they're all as amazing in their own regards. I don't really see what you mean by "getting stuck on walls all the time", as that never happens to me. But yeah, if they tuned the physics right, it could definitely feel really close to the original games and I bet a lot more people would've like it that way. I'm not one of them as I couldn't care less about it, as long as the game's still fun. Intersting bit about JM4 gonna have a PS2 version tho. Yeah, from what I've seen digging in the game's files, it probably would've had a PC release too. There are some unused menu icons for "2 player link", although that could've easily been just using the PS1's link feature.

I enjoyed JM3's graphics but not the gameplay. One thing I did have alot of fun with tho is the hop glitch.

Wow, so this has been debunked. It's actually a game called Moto-X. Could the rumor that this started off as a motocross game be false then? Or is that backed up by anything else?

Well one of the people who worked on it did say it was supposed to be a science fiction motocross game. But they couldn't figure out how to fit basically 40 wheels (2 for each bike) in the game at the time. Then it was like okay no wheels they are hoverbikes.

Also jesus what an awful game. I just looked at gameplay video. Compared to that Jet Moto was like the damn Mona Lisa.

Jet Moto is pretty unknown these days, the fact that someone actually took the time to make this fake is surprising. Unless it's this magazine that wanted to advertise Jet Moto but didn't have any screenshots so they took some from Moto-X. But yeah, I recall that there was an interview with a JM developer who said JM1 started out as a motocross game if I remember it correctly.

I took the scan from a magazine scan at emu-paradise. I don't think it was a hoax as noone would have noticed it if it weren't for me finding it. I think it was just EGM making a mistake.
