When I first start modding Jet Moto 3, I saw this image : BKSEL.TIM I forgot to tell you guys. This image never appears in any bios, any menus, or any other things. It may have been a beta texture for selecting your bike, like in jet moto 2 or one, where you actually see the bike floating and turning. Maybe Jet Moto 3 was meant to be like that and having a background image where your bike is showcased? Tell me what you think.

Oh and Planet X and Machu Picchu have a background, even though the fog hides them in the game : PXSKY.TIM MACHUSKY.TIM

Hey guys! It's been a long time since I've updated this mod! I've been busy working on Jet Moto Galaxy. I decided to do a little video to show you guys the new textures and physics I modified to make a new rider : Enigma! Yeah, I decided to put Enigma in JM3. Anyway, here's the video :

Hey guys, a little update! I was searching for JM3 demo disc roms and I found an old OMP demo disc rom with a demo of Jet Moto 3 on it! When I opened the rom and went into the JM3 demo folder, I found out that the coding was WAY more modifiable than the final game, the lighting was from a tim file with areas more dark in the tim file meaning it's darker in the track and vice-versa. When playing it, you got The Max in Devil's Canyon. However, the music from Shipwreck Cove plays, the checkpoint sound is the collect a coin sound, The Max is as light as Granny, the AIs are way more difficult than in the final game and the engine sounds' quality is shit. I tried to put that track in the final game but nothing was compatible, even the hud was not the same coding! Also, the slightest modification even in TIM files would result in the rom not starting, so I couldn't modify the game.
After that, I found another JM3 demo, but this time on its own rom. When I played it everything was like the final game except the music from Lost City was playing. I inspected the files and I was surprised A LOT! In addition from Devil's Canyon, there was Lost City, Sky Park, Volcano Island, Urban Subway, Khumbu Ice Falls and Catacombs in the track folder! I tried to take the model and textures from Lost City and put it in Devil's Canyon but when I played it I spawned in mid air and fell off when I heard "start" sound. I fell on Lost City but went right through it! The AIs raced like if Devil's Canyon was there. I found out some .WLD files in the WG folder. They had the name of the tracks in the game. I could've used a gameshark code to go in other tracks but I'm not good at that. I switched Lost City's .WLD file with Devil's Canyon and spawned at the start of Lost City instead of Devil's Canyon! There was a problem though, somehow some of Devil's Canyon configuration was still there so in some tracks (I tried them all, even some tracks from the final game) the sky was filled with textures from the track and water was floating in the void. It does it even in the final game.

As it turns out, the coin sound is like that in one of the Jet Moto 3 commercials with some beta drivers and track settings! I'm going to explore deeper into the physics...

Wow, I see you've been quite busy. Let us know what you find! I found nothing else since the backgrounds in the files of Jet Moto 3. Even the demos have nothing really interesting in them. One of the two demos is a slightly more recent build than a version that was in a trailer that Emperor (R.I.P.) posted on a thread. The other is simply JM3 with alternate coding and some tracks taken out. The menus are there and everything. Well... For my next Enigmod version I succeeded in keeping the music intact but it required me to transfer all over to a new rom... Well, that gave me the idea of making a whole new speedometer that is both new and familiar! I'll post a video on my YouTube channel for a preview today.

It would be interesting to see if it's possible to make reversed versions of tracks that don't have them. I'm not sure if JM3 had an actual separate file for reversed tracks that shared assets with the original or if the game literally loaded the same files but with a reversed checkpoint order.

Oh yeah it should be! If I change the .WLD from KrapYks and replace it with Devil's Canyon's .WLD it should work! EDIT : It's really weird... Putting LOSTR instead of CAN7 brings you to Lost City not reversed... But putting CAN7 instead of LOSTR brings you to Devil's canyon, once again, not reversed. Fuck logic...

Ok, so I went back into the game's files and did a couple of tests. I now know almost everything about JM3's files. Here's a list of what file types I know. - WLD files (located in /DATA/WG) - Used to tell the game which track to load, or rather, which track files to load (the track files are in /DATA/GRAPHICS/TRACKS/INSERT-TRACK-NAME and those loaded by the WLD files are only the BND and TXB) and what their content are supposed to be.
- JMB files (located in /DATA/PHYSICS) - These are actually renamed text files that can be opened by notepad. Each bike in the game has its own file code-named after, firstly its model, then its character number. For example, the MODEL11.JMB, which is the first file in the list, has 11 because it's the first rider of the first bike category, MODEL12.JMB is the second number of the first category, etc.
- TIM files (located almost everywhere) - Standard PS1 image files, mainly used for textures.
- LMP files (located in /DATA/GRAPHICS/TRACKS/INSERT-TRACK-NAME) - Lightmap files. Used to determine the intensity and the position of the light that affects the bikes and the riders.
- TXB files (located in /DATA/GRAPHICS/TRACKS/INSERT-TRACK-NAME) - Contains the tracks' textures in TEX files.
- TEX files (mainly located in /DATA/GRAPHICS/BIKES and its subfolders, but also found in TXB files) - Contains TIM files.
- BND files (mainly located in /DATA/GRAPHICS/TRACKS/INSERT-TRACK-NAME) - Contains 3D models (example : tracks) and programming (ex.: checkpoints, paths, collision)
- STR files (located in /DATA/FMV and its subfolders) - Contains the game's videos, modifiable by extracting them from the game with XtrActor and converting to and from STR/AVI format using STR Converter or jpsxdec.
- VB files (located in /DATA/SOUND and its subfolders) - Contains sound files (example : sound effects), can be opened with PSound
- .55 files (located in the main directory) - Contains much of the code necessary to game to run. It also loads the tracks' TIM background images and their LMP lightmap.
- XA files (located in /XA) - Contains the game's soundtrack, modifiable by extracting them from the game with XtrActor and converting to and from XA/WAV format using jpsxdec.
As I mentioned before, the WLD files only load the track models and their texture, so the lightmap, background image, sky/void color, fog color and fog density are all loaded by something else. This is a big step forward, because I can now concentrate on finding out which file(s) controls these settings, if I can find it, I might be able to disable fog in Machu Picchu! Also, I tried out many different combinations, and each time I loaded up Machu Picchu in another track's place (example : renaming MACHU.WLD to CAN7.WLD and replacing the file), the background image didn't load and in its place were palette switched (corresponding to the original background's palette) track textures, exactly like in my JM3 : Enigmod's Sky Ruins track. The fact that Machu Picchu's model and textures prevent any background from appearing (yet) may be why it's disable in the final game! Maybe something screwed up the background and the programmers didn't bother to fix it and instead chose to disable it completely!

Alright, so I'm gonna extract ALL the game's sound effects and upload it on MEGA, I'll then post a link here! Anyway, I discovered something AMAZING. Every single sound effect has an effect applied to it in game, even the instruments of the title screen's music! Also, you know those "irritating hoverbike engine sound effects"? WELL... THEY'RE ACTUALLY SUPERBIKE SOUND EFFECTS. YES, YOU HEARD ME RIGHT. Jet Moto 3 uses sound effects from an actual motorcycle to put in the game! The effects the game puts on them just makes them unrecognizable! ALSO, SOME SOUND EFFECTS ARE LITERALLY FROM A JET REACTOR.
